Young actors will develop self-confidence through theatre games, grow listening skills through storytelling, and promote coordination through movement. Students will learn about projection, enunciation, articulation, pronunciation, theatre vocabulary terms, exploring different characters and scripts, preparing for an audition, and performing in the spotlight. All students will have the opportunity to participate in three feature performances including a full musical theatre production.

In this fun and inspiring art class, students will learn to explore self-expression and creativity through freehand drawing, painting, sculpting and model making using a variety of artistic mediums. All creations will be featured at Amber Academy events and at various community art shows throughout the year. Students may also be asked to help create set pieces and props for shows performed by Amber Academy’s performing arts classes.

Concert Choir is for younger students who want to develop their interest and ability in the vocal talents they’ll enjoy throughout their life and makes early experiences of group singing fun and inspiring. Choristers will learn about voice, sound and music through playful exercises as a group, and also learn to read music and understand rhythms. Our goal is to introduce students to multi-part music of many genres. Concert Choir students will deepen their love of singing, develop social skills, and make positive friendships. All students will have the opportunity to participate in three feature performances.

Students will learn to refine their rehearsal and performance skills and develop inner constructs that build confidence and awareness through a variety of vocal & physical techniques, and theatre exercises. Students will explore scenes and monologues, character studies, and script work through a variety of styles such as improv, comic timing, mime, and mask, while experimenting with breath work designed to help connect with and access a range of emotions used for character development in a playful, supportive and team-based environment. All students will have the opportunity to participate in three feature performances including a full musical theatre production.

Show Choir is an ensemble that combines the movement of dance and singing to perform songs from a variety of musical composers. Through this program, students will learn proper use of breath support, phrasing, interpretation, postures, stage presence, and the other important musical disciplines and vocal techniques. Students will study and perform vocal and choral music in a variety of styles and learn the art of movement and dance. All students will have the opportunity to participate in three feature performances including a full musical theatre production.

This class is designed for teens who have a genuine passion for performing and may even be considering acting as a potential career path.
Students will develop acting skills which can be used both on-stage and on-screen for film and television. Aspiring actors will focus on different acting styles, character analysis and development, vocal development & movement, stage presence & timing, scene study, script analysis, monologues, camera angles & continuity, commercial improvisation, and audition etiquette and techniques. Final projects will include building their own actor’s tool kit (headshots, resume, and promo reel) and performing in a short film production.

This class will begin with exploring fabric types and construction methods and familiarizing students with sewing techniques. Each student will create a simple project of their own choice to be featured in a fashion show segment of the Academy’s feature performance at the end of the first term. In the second term, students will work on costume construction and design using a variety of materials and techniques to help create costumes and pieces for the Academy’s major musical theatre production.

Students will learn how images work, their structure, the basics of Visual Language, and the universal power of pictures to express ideas. Our intent is to sharpen the students’ powers of observation and make better photographs. They will also learn the basics of how cameras and lenses work, the properties of light, the role of highlights, the depth of shadows and the transitions between them.
Each week we will explore a theme using these principles. Students may use any digital device to make their pictures and will need access to email to submit their pictures for review in class.

Students in this class will learn how to shoot and edit film sequences and gain hands-on experience in videography and video production, while producing mini-commercials and short films. Students will also provide videography support for events featuring Amber Academy’s performing arts students.
