The safety of our students, instructors, and volunteers is a paramount concern at Amber Academy. As such, the following new Covid-19 protocols are being implemented in accordance with the BC Health and Safety Guidelines:
**This information is subject to changes with the introduction of additional governmental guidelines**
Drop off and pick up to take place outside. Our staff will be outside to facilitate student drop off and pick up and parents will not be permitted to enter the building. Staff will take student attendance upon their arrival so parents will not need to sign their children in/out for classes. After each class, children will be released once visual contact with a parent or guardian has been made, or until we have been instructed by the parent/guardian that the student can leave on their own.
Use of masks. Our staff will be wearing masks at pick up and drop off as well as during all classes. Masks will be mandatory for all students in grades 5 and up however exceptions will be made for students who cannot wear masks for medical reasons. For students in grades 4 and under it will be the parent’s preference as to whether or not their child wears a mask, masks will not be provided for students’ use.
Frequent Handwashing and/or Sanitizing. Students and staff will be required to sanitize hands on arrival and before leaving the building, after using the toilet, after sneezing or coughing into hands or tissue, as well as before and after snack breaks.
Disinfecting surfaces before and after each class. All high-touch surfaces (doorknobs, etc.), tables, chairs, toilets and sinks will be sanitized before and after each class.
Use of Equipment and Supplies. Art and sewing supplies are not to be shared between students. Each student will have their own kit containing supplies needed for their class projects. The kits are to be used only by the student they are assigned to. Kits will be sanitized before and after each class. Shared use of equipment is to be avoided. If more than one student requires the use of the same piece of equipment it will be sanitized between users.
Snacks and Breaks. Breaks will be staggered between classes and held outside when possible. Healthy snacks will continue to be provided for the students but will be distributed by staff wearing gloves and/or using thongs following the Foodsafe BC protocols. Students will not be permitted to help themselves to any snacks or share food.
Limited class sizes. All classes will be limited in size in accordance with the 6-foot rule and in line with restrictions as set by the venue.
Minimize Student Movements Throughout the Venue. Students and staff will be required to remain in their designated learning space at all times and will not be permitted to visit friends or family members in attendance for other classes. Students and staff will have access to a designated washroom facility in the venue and only one student at a time will be permitted in facilities with multiple toilet stalls.
Illness. No student or staff member is to attend class if they or anyone in their household or immediate social circle has any Covid-like symptoms. Parents/guardians are expected to assess their child daily for symptoms of common cold, influenza, COVID-19, or other infectious respiratory disease.
If a student or staff member, or anyone in their household, has travelled outside of Canada in the previous 14 days, or was identified as having had close contact of a confirmed case or outbreak of Covid-19, they must stay home and self-isolate for 14 days.
Any student showing symptoms of illness at a class will be supervised away from the other students by a staff member and the student’s parent or guardian will be notified and advised to pick-up the child immediately.
Mindful of Social Distancing. Student spacing for all classes will be in accordance to the 6-foot rule, however, when working with children there may times where they are within that 6 feet. We will do our best to abide by this and have the children wash their hands often throughout the class.
The BC Centre for Disease Control recognizes that physical distancing for children is difficult. Instead, the focus should be on avoiding physical contact where possible. With this in mind, we will be avoiding activities and games that involve physical contact. We will be using floor markers to encourage distancing in the classroom setting.
