The safety of our students, instructors, and volunteers is a paramount concern at Amber Academy. As such, we have updated our Covid-19 protocols in accordance with the BC Health and Safety Guidelines:
* This information is subject to changes with the introduction of additional governmental guidelines. *
Drop off and pick up to take place outside. Our staff will be outside to facilitate student drop off and pick up. Staff will take student attendance upon their arrival; parents will not need to sign their children in/out for classes. After each class, children aged 10 and under will be released once visual contact with a parent or guardian has been made, or until we have been instructed by the parent/guardian that the student can leave on their own. When picking up your child, please take the time to park and exit your vehicle so our staff can clearly see you.
Parents/guardians are asked not to enter the building unless requested by staff, or unless it is an urgent matter, and will be required to wear masks while inside the building.
Use of masks. Our staff will be wearing masks at pick up and drop off as well as during all classes. Masks are mandatory for all students in grades 4-12 however exceptions will be made for students who cannot wear masks for medical reasons. Parents are asked to provide a mask for their child however we will have disposable masks for students who forget to bring one. Students in grades K-3 are encouraged to wear masks but are not required to do so.
Frequent Handwashing and/or Sanitizing. Students and staff will be required to sanitize hands on arrival before entering the building, after using the toilet, after sneezing or coughing into hands or tissue, as well as before and after snack breaks.
Disinfecting surfaces. High-touch surfaces (doorknobs, etc.), tables, chairs, toilets and sinks will be sanitized regularly.
Use of Equipment and Supplies. Art and sewing supplies are not to be shared between students. Each student will have their own kit containing supplies needed for their class projects. The kits are to be used only by the student they are assigned to. Kits will be sanitized before and after each class. Shared use of equipment is to be avoided. If more than one student requires the use of the same piece of equipment it will be sanitized between users.
Snacks and Breaks. Healthy snacks will continue to be provided for the students and will be distributed by staff following the Foodsafe BC protocols. Students will not be permitted to help themselves to any snacks or share food.
Minimize Student Movements Throughout the Venue. Students and staff will be required to remain in their designated learning space at all times and will not be permitted to visit friends or family members in attendance for other classes. Students and staff will have access to a designated washroom facility in the venue and only one student at a time from the same class will be permitted in facilities with multiple toilet stalls.
Illness. No student or staff member is to attend class if they are sick. Parents/guardians are expected to assess their child daily for symptoms of illness please visit K to 12 Health Check or BC Daily Health Checklist before coming to class.
Any student showing symptoms of illness at a class will be supervised away from the other students by a staff member and the student’s parent or guardian will be notified and advised to pick-up the child immediately.
