Wednesdays, 3:30 – 4:30 pm
These advanced classes will push artistic boundaries and challenge creative limits. Young artists will intensively develop their skills in drawing, painting, sketching, sculpting and model making. Student works will be featured at Amber Academy events and at various community art shows throughout the year.
Mondays, 3:30 – 5:00 pm
This class will begin with exploring fabric types and construction methods and familiarizing students with sewing techniques. Each student will create a simple project of their own choice to be featured in a fashion show segment of the Academy’s feature performance at the end of the first term. In the second term, students will work on costume construction and design using a variety of materials and techniques to help create costumes and pieces for the Academy’s major musical theatre production.
Mondays, 3:30 – 5:00 pm
Spark your child’s imagination and ignite their creativity in this fun, hands-on class. Students will learn all about making a movie from story boarding, and developing characters and a script, to shooting and editing film sequences in order to produce mini-commercials and short films. Students may also be asked to provide videography support for Amber Academy events.
Fridays, 3:30 - 5:00
Students will learn how images work, their structure, the basics of Visual Language, and the universal power of pictures to express ideas. Our intent is to sharpen the students’ powers of observation and make better photographs. They will also learn the basics of how cameras and lenses work, the properties of light, the role of highlights, the depth of shadows and the transitions between them. Each week students will explore a theme using these principles. Students may use any digital device to make their pictures and will need access to email to submit their pictures for review in class.
Wednesdays, 3:30 – 5:00 pm
This class is for students interested in working behind-the-scenes in theatre as well as those who love to perform on stage.
Using material that is specific and relative to teens and high-school youth, students in this class will work alongside theatre professionals and experienced designers to explore various stagecraft arts including directing, casting, stage management, costumes & scenery design, and props & set building. As the production team, the students will collaborate to bring a shared vision of a musical theatre production to the stage featuring those students in the class who also enjoy being “in the spotlight”.
In the spring the students will also have the opportunity to join the production crew for our junior & intermediate students’ musical production, or they can join the cast as part of the ensemble! As a final project, students will create characters and develop a story-line, choose songs, write lyrics, and collaborate on choreography to build their own mini musical to present at the year-end event.
